The Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture is seeking a Lifting Superintendent to join the team on the Central Interceptor Project.  

The Central Interceptor is New Zealand’s largest ever Wastewater Project consisting of close to 20km of tunnels, more than 17 shafts, a major pump station and substantial wastewater management and network infrastructure works. 

Reporting to Senior Superintendent / Plant Manager, the primary responsibility of this role is to coordinate lifts, audits, check lift plans, approve complex lift plans and review and update lifting procedures for the Central Interceptor Project.

What will you be doing? 

  • Ensure fit for purpose cranes are hired and used for all lifting operation
  • Day by day management of crane crews throughout all sites
  • Stopping any lifting activities being completed outside the procedures and notifying senior management accordingly
  • Support the project team in site lifting activities including excavators, telehandlers, etc.
  • Attending pre-construction and planning workshops
  • Ensuring that all finalised lifting plans have been reviewed, completed, and approved before lifting activities can commence
  • Checking and inspecting lifting activities and equipment
  • Completing regular lifting review on all standard lifting operations
  • Ensuring that all complex lifts must be observed and reviewed in accordance with the lift plan and that all changes on complex lift plans must be signed before recommencing
  • Ensure inspection are completed in accordance with lifting procedures
  • Identifying and reporting any area of concerns regarding the workforce, lifting activities and procedure compliance
  • Ensuring that all workers involved in lifting activities hold correct competence and appropriate experience
  • Conduct post incident investigations that relate to lifting operations

The successful candidate will have: 

  • The following unit standards - US3789, US3801, US27676, & US3795
  • VOCs for dogman, mobile crane, crawler crane and crane rigging
  • Ability to determine priorities, meet strict deadlines and balance competing demands
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Proven planning and organizational skills
  • Positive about health and safety in the workplace
  • Planning and management of daily tasks
  • Ability to build strong and effective relationships
  • Positive and pro-active approach toward teamwork
  • Communication clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Ability to consistently produce work of high quality
