The Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture is seeking a Project Geologist/Geotechnical Engineer to join the team on the Central Interceptor Project.

The Central Interceptor is New Zealand’s largest ever Wastewater Project consisting of close to 20km of tunnels, more than 17 shafts, a major pump station and substantial wastewater management and network infrastructure works. The project is located in Auckland.

Reporting to the Instrumentation and Monitoring Manager, the primary responsibility of this position is to provide administrative, technical and organisational support to the Instrumentation & Monitoring/ Geotechnical Team. 

Things you’ll get involved in:

  • Undertake geological mapping of shafts, borehole and hand auger logging
  • Assist in the planning of geotechnical investigations
  • Interpret instrumentation data
  • Ensure instrumentation and monitoring system meets consent and contract requirements
  • Assist in any Geological advice to the construction and design team
  • Help set up and manage the projects instrumentation and monitoring system and subcontractor(s)
  • Prepare and maintain/upkeep projects, Instrumentation & Monitoring Plan, drawings and associated procedures and protocols
  • Review advice from designers on geological issues and conducting independent assessments
  • Contribute to the projects risk management process
  • Prepare weekly reports
  • Other ad hoc activities as required

The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree qualifications in Geology, Civil Engineering or equivalent degree
  • Full Class 1 Driver's Licence
  • 2 years + experience of working in a similar role
  • Experience in borehole logging, hand augers and mapping are preferred
  • Ability to priorities, meet deadlines and balance competing demands
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interpret data effectively and provide concise reporting
  • A positive attitude, initiative, and ability to adapt
  • Positive and pro-active approach towards teamwork
  • Progressive thinking and robust project administration capabilities
  • Clear Communication written and verbal communication
  • Ability to consistently produce high quality work
  • Computer literate and systems savvy
