The Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture is seeking an experienced TBM Mechanical Supervisor to join the Plant team on the Central Interceptor Project. 

The Central Interceptor is a wastewater tunnel that will run between the Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant and Grey Lynn. The main tunnel will run underground for 14.7 kilometres and will be at a depth of between 15 and 110 metres. It will cross the Manukau Harbour at about 15 metres below the seabed. Along the route it will connect to the existing wastewater network, which will divert flows and overflows into the tunnel to reduce overflows. 

As a TBM Mechanical Supervisor you will lead a team of Mechanics and be responsible for the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of construction equipment, plant and Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) as well as ensuring a quick turnaround of breakdowns in order to minimise downtime on the Central Interceptor Project. 

What you will be doing: 

  • Lead a team of Mechanics in the execution of all mechanical works 
  • Coordinate activities by planning and developing work schedules, setting priorities, and directing and monitoring the work of the Mechanic team 
  • Diagnose faults and repair construction equipment, plant and TBM Organise and perform scheduled maintenance 
  • Manage the hours, equipment, and tools of the team ensuring the workshop is tidy and organized 
  • Ensure communication/information/reports are done daily and passed onto the supervisor for shift handovers 
  • Work collaboratively with Engineers, Electricians, and the wider construction team Complete weekly inspection checks and ensure pre-start checklists have been carried out 
  • Check and verify incoming plant are safe and fit for purpose 
  • Ensure accurate documentation are kept for all Mechanical maintenance works 

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Minimum 10 years experience as a Mechanic 2-4 years experience in a supervisory role 
  • Hands-on experience in TBM, diesel motors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems Experience working on heavy civil infrastructure projects 
  • A good approach to teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills 
  • Ability to work under pressure, determine priorities, whilst being safety conscious Flexibility to work shifts 
  • Construct Safe ideal but not essential
